Protecting the community from gun violence
We worked with the Sheriff’s Office and the gun violence task force to take away guns from dangerous people. During the last year, we’ve been able to get 164 guns, and illegal gun parts and bullets, away from people that show signs of very dangerous behavior. Some examples of dangerous actions by these people are thinking about suicide, targeting schools, harassing neighbors, shooting guns in public, threatening public officials, and being violent toward a person they’re in a relationship with. The Sheriff’s Office removed different types of guns, such as handguns, rifles, and shotguns from these people. We accomplished this by asking the court for a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO). GVROs stop a person whose behavior is unsafe, from having a gun. Our Office won every case where we asked the court for a GVRO. The County’s work to get guns away from dangerous people in the community has made our county safer.
